Mile 24 - Chicken

I have to say. There is something about Vicenza, Italy that makes me very subdued - excluding the bout of late night stress regarding the London riots. Other than the hours spent glued to BBC news wondering if the world is about to end, for the most part I've been unintentionally, well, relaxed - or lazy for lack of a better word. I think the term here is "la dolce vita"?  Seriously,  the Italians here are almost eerily chill. Perhaps it's the 3 hour lunch they take everyday from noon to 3? Not kidding from noon to three the entire city shuts down. Well, not entirely. Mostly all the mom and pop shops that comprise a large chunk of Vicenza's economy.

Nevertheless, It's Tuesday. Or more importantly it's food market day!  What is the significance of Vicenza food market day, you ask? Well, I'm glad you asked. Chicken, my friends. Glorious, succulent, buttery, rotisserie chickens! Apologies to all my vegetarians friends out there. Yes, the most amazing rotisserie chicken on the planet. Not a word of English is spoken at the chicken stall. A bit nerve racking at first. "Una pollo grande". Then they respond with a few sentences in Italian. I respond with a smile and a"si". They laugh, tell everyone I don't speak Italian. I walk away with glorious chicken! It's the simple things in life really. A day made well by chicken.

After consuming half of a pollo grande, I digested, then went for run through town. I think I'll actually miss running in this town. Simple yet stimulating. Beauty at every step. So stimulating, I forgot to take pictures. Managed to get one in. Enjoy.
