Hot Hot Hot.
I don't know how I ever survived the Texas heat? It's 88 degrees ( 29c) here and I feel like I'm cooking in a microwave! Clearly I've been out of Texas for too long.
The day started late as I was in no rush to get out of bed or start a run. Sara picked me up for lunch on Base She and her husband Jon work at the US Military base in Vicenza. Jon is a JAG Lawyer and Sara works in Protocol. They have many leather bound books. I get to reap the rewards of their service. I thank them daily for allowing me to consider their apartment my second home. Or third home if you get technical. They live in a beautiful apartment in the center of Vicenza. The building is over 500 years and old and designed by a famous Italian architect whose name escapes me. If you really care who designed their building, send me a message and I'll find the name.
Back to the day at hand. Sara picked me up from their apartment for lunch on base. This excited me essentially because the U.S. base is basically a little USA confined behind the walls of a base rented by the U.S. from the Italian government. Being little USA means the base has all the comforts of home. American movie cinema, bowling alley, burger king drive through, and full on food court complete with Subway, Taco Bell and Popeye's Chicken. I'm from Texas and have been blessed with a life time of delicious Tex-Mex and a palate that appreciates quality Mexican and Tex-Mex food. But for some reason, yesterday, I was CRAVING the dirty greasy sinful food of Taco Hell. I stuffed my face as if it was my last meal, then immediately regretted my decision to consume two burritos and 5 hot sauces. So yeah, Taco Bell can be checked off my list for while. Sorted.
After eating Taco Bell, there was no way I could run. All I wanted to do was sleep. Perhaps I was still tired from yesterday's travel fest, or perhaps Taco Bell really does have harmful additives that make people want to sit on a couch and play video games all day? All this to say. It took hours for me to muster up the excitement to get out and run a mile. I finally managed to make it happen after dinner, while the sun was setting.
This mile was the second worst mile of the last 18. I decided to stay with-in close proximity of the apartment so as to not get lost after collapsing from a Taco Bell overdose. I went through the same park as the day before, up to the old city wall, then back around towards the apartment. Nothing too exciting. Note to self. No more Taco Bell. More water.
