Mile 8 - Week one in the bag. Swoosh!

I have never wanted to stuff my face more than while walking on Brick Lane. I don't know if my stomach wasn't sufficiently satisfied from the peanut butter toast and fruit I had earlier in the day, or if I was simply jealous of all the pedestrians stuffing their faces with delightfully adventurous culinary treats. but I could feel my stomach growl for at least a mile. Brick Lane on a Sunday is home to every genre of food one can ponder. Ethiopian, Bangladeshi, Spanish, Malaysian, Vegan, baked goods made with French flour-(not sure the significance of 'French' flour, but you're damn right I wanted to find out!),  HOT SALT BEEF STUFFED BAGELS!!!  My mouth is watering just thinking about all the deliciousness.

All I can say is, if I didn't have to run a mile in spandex, I would be at least 5 pounds heavier than I was this morning. It took every bit of strength I had to not spend the 5 pounds I had stowed away in my secret spandex pants pocket. Eye on the prize, Nanci. Eventually I managed to find my way to the end, no harm done.












Besides being the culinary rendition of Disneyland's 'It's a Small World' ride, Brick Lane also just so happens to be the location of London's largest garage sale. Vendors(  if you can actually call a girl with a backpack and blanket full of old sunglasses and last weekend's laundry,a vendor) are scattered around in every nook and cranny with-in a quarter of a mile radius to Brick Lane proper. I'm thinking of setting up shop next weekend. I have quite a few superfluous items that could use a new home. If you need anything, and I mean anything, there's a good chance you'll find it on or very near Brick Lane.

















My run started just a block from Brick Lane, at the Spitalfields City Farm, then ended at Bethnal Green tube station. The heat made for quite a new running experience. Immediately following the miles end, I downed a litre and a half of water. Hydration is key. At least one day next week I'm going to shoot for two miles. My goal is to run 3 miles, comfortably, by the end of the 6 weeks. I've got quite a ways to go.

  1. Stay motivated Nan! You can do this! You always feel great after a run, try to remember that when dodging urban obstacles!
